What is the difference between a record player, a player piano, and a musician? All of them, including the musician, are machines that makes music. A record player, by most accounts, is more interesting than an MP3 player or Spotify though. That is because, I believe, there is a performative aspect to the older Analog machine that we can witness and understand. The same is true for a human being playing music. Like the record player, we have a basic understanding of how the sound is created.
This work explores the relationship between music and performance and how this has evolved with technology.
